The White Stripes cover MC5, a Detroit band that Jack has used as inspiration particularly in the vocals department.

I adore this track because of its contrasting nature. Paired with a innocent, child-like singing from Meg which only consists of La’s, with the full swing of The White Stripes raw power coming into play, this song is dynamic and a musical montage that is relentless. The sinister nature of the lyrics also bring about another dimension of juxtaposition.

It’s a hell of a song.

The White Stripes From The Basement Part 1

This performance by The White Stripes seems quite special to myself.

First off, Meg’s in a particular good mood, well…I think both Jack and Meg are but the fact that Meg is in such a happy mood, well, it just makes the whole chemistry between the two unbearably gob-smacking.

Also it’s a such a nice showcase of The White Stripes’ diverse and multi-faceted character. From the hard thumping of “Blue Orchid” to the hard rocking cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Party of special things to do” (which is my personal favourite) to he soft renditions of “Forever for her is over for me” and “As ugly as I seem” along with small cute interludes from Jack like the little intro he gives Meg by replacing Peggy-o with Meggy-o (Peggy-o being a Bob Dylan song).

This is The White Stripes in their Little Room having a real ball and biscuit.
