The White Stripes - Black Jack Davey

It’s a folk, western hoe-down that is Dylan-esque in character paired with the power of The White Stripes.

A tragic love story and the besotted nature of an innocent house wife to the apparently offensively charming, Black Jack Davey.

Enjoy

I adore this track because of its contrasting nature.  Paired with a innocent, child-like singing from Meg which only consists of La’s, with the full swing of The White Stripes raw power coming into play, this song is dynamic and a musical montage that is relentless.  The sinister nature of the lyrics also bring about another dimension of juxtaposition.

It’s a hell of a song.

The White Stripes - Lord send me an angel

The duo covers one of Jack’s musical heroes, Blind Willie McTell.

Jack inserts himself into the lyrics.

Good one Jack.

A rompin rendition of The Cramp’s “Can’t find my mind”.

It’s pure swag blues.

The White Stripes From The Basement Part 2

Little Ghost is the gem here.

It seems like they’re trying to summon Red Rain.

Happiness is red, black and white.

The White Stripes From The Basement Part 1

This performance by The White Stripes seems quite special to myself.

First off, Meg’s in a particular good mood, well…I think both Jack and Meg are but the fact that Meg is in such a happy mood, well, it just makes the whole chemistry between the two unbearably gob-smacking.

Also it’s a such a nice showcase of The White Stripes’ diverse and multi-faceted character.  From the hard thumping of “Blue Orchid” to the hard rocking cover of Captain Beefheart’s “Party of special things to do” (which is my personal favourite) to he soft renditions of “Forever for her is over for me” and “As ugly as I seem” along with small cute interludes from Jack like the little intro he gives Meg by replacing Peggy-o with Meggy-o (Peggy-o being a Bob Dylan song).

This is The White Stripes in their Little Room having a real ball and biscuit.

A cover of the James Gang’s Funk #49.  The Black Keys beef it up and I love it.

The Black Keys- Evil

Aha so The Black Keys have something of their own hidden away because they are prolific and and this is what proliferation does…

Songs good as this don’t get a look in.

I mentioned before that I like finding treasure.

Well I especially love it when the bands and people I admire and follow have created small projects that they have laid aside but not hidden and in the furore and fuss over their main body of work there was those little gems that not many would see but was in plain sight.

I start off with The White Stripes who are always good value.
